Why judges use DebateClock for Parliamentary

Parliamentary debate has no prep time between speeches — motions are delivered, brief prep happens before the round starts, and then speeches run back-to-back. What Parli does have is the POI window: debaters on the opposing bench can rise to request a Point of Information between minutes 1:00 and 6:00 of a 7-minute constructive.

DebateClock shows a POI window cue on the debater display during those eligible minutes. The 6 standard speeches — PMC, LOC, MGC, MOC, LOR, PMR — load automatically. No prep pool to track, no crossfires to watch for.

Frequently asked questions

What are the speech times in Parliamentary debate?
Standard Parli uses 4 constructives (PMC, LOC, MGC, MOC) at 7 minutes each, followed by the Leader of Opposition Rebuttal (4 min) and Prime Minister Rebuttal (4 min). Total 36 minutes of speaking.
What is the POI window?
Points of Information can be requested between 1:00 and 6:00 of any 7-minute constructive. The first and last minute are protected. DebateClock displays a POI cue on the debater screen during eligible time.
Why is there no prep time in Parli?
Parliamentary debate uses pre-round prep only — motions are announced and teams prepare before speeches start. Once the round begins, speeches run back-to-back with no between-speech prep pool.
Does this support NPDA or APDA timings?
DebateClock defaults to standard Parli timings. NPDA and APDA have small variations — use +30s or -30s on the judge controls to adjust individual speeches as needed.
Is this timer free for invitationals?
Yes. Free to use for any round at any level — practice, invitational, league, or national tournament. No signup or account required.
